BP Announce massive profit… rank profiteering

Are we really surprised? I am not a fan of windfall taxes per se but when we see the gross and frankly obscene profits generated through the hardships of working people, well something has to be done.

The big oil companies control the Oil market and are therefore the ones who have forced the raise in prices. We will see the prices drop but the will stay above £1.00 a litre so, these oil companies can rake in more profit and we will forget how they have pocketed so much money because we will be *relieved* that the price has dropped from a high of £1.16ppl of unleaded.

The sooner we find an alternative to oil the better. How in the name of all that is Holy can we sit back and allow this to happen? Where ever did our backbone go? Where ever did our disdain for extortion, profiteering and pure greed go?

This is the price we pay for allowing the wholesale abrogation of responsibilities by UK companies, for allowing shareholder short term gain to be the governing principle of what is now the thin end of the capitalist wedge. I am a capitalist but I also see the need to protect the well being of the people of any country. The extortion that we have and continue to suffer at the hands of multi-national companies who have a virtual monopoly on a critical resource is a shameful example of our failure to keep focused on what is important.

People of the world…what David Beckham, Britney Spears or any other celebrity does is NOT important!

Remain vigilant and be prepared to step up to the mark…how much is too much???

It has been (widely) noted by the media in the UK that “Supermarkets” are “locked into a price war” and have reduced the price of their Petrol & Diesel to “reflect the drop in the price of Crude Oil”.

Once again our “Media” (for that read Corporate poster boys) have failed in their duty. IT does not take a genius to work out that the oil barrel price has been dropping for a week but the price of petrol on the forecourts have not dropped to reflect this.

In essence these companies have been raking it in whilst our attention has been diverted by the lax, poor and frankly absurd media in this country. If anyone in the UK believes what they read in the papers then they want their head examining. We are fed what the corporates want, nothing more, nothing less.

So, now we are supposed to feel grateful that these supermarkets have reduced their prices to reflect something that happened a week or so ago, no mention of the £Millions they have made off the back of the consumer whilst pretending that rising oil prices effect them immediately.

Wake up people, don’t believe the hype.

Today I drove past my local supermarket (Black and yellow logo, Northern in origin…know the one?) and I noticed that Unleaded was 114.5ppl. Now, last time I checked the price of a barrel of oil (This morning) was $1.34 per barrel, DOWN from a high last week of what, $1.40?

So why have the prices at the pump not come down as a reflection of this drop? Forecourts are very quick (some say TOO quick because Petrol Retailers and Companies like Shell FUTURE their oil purchases – that’s right they agree a price for 6 months into the future!!) to rise on fears of whatever might impact supply, a war, some Saudi Prince sneezing whilst eating his cornflakes, the entrails of a chicken not augering well, whatever. And yet, when the price goes down we see even more DESPICABLE profiteering from these companies. If the price rises in line with wild excuses, it come come down with equal speed.

Now why doesnt our government do anythinga bout this? Simple, GREED. The Exchequer is raking it in, so much so that it is rapidly filling the large hole in it’s finances so why should it? The retailers are making loads of money…even more for every hour that they avoid putting the prices down.

The Media NEVER make as much play about the fact of the price going down as they do when it goes up and they NEVER take the retailers to task over this.

I am sick of this state of affairs….but what can we do????

Call me cynical but……

Energy prices go up….and the media reports they could go up by another 40% this year (This is legalised extortion…the only winners are the Government and the Energy Companies)….Government says “Oh dear, well maybe we should re-introduce the whole Nuclear Power thing now then eh? Cheap power and all that!” (Knowing that it will take at least 10 years for the new strategy to have any effect on prices…

Food prices go up and are reported to continue to rise….Government says “Oh well, maybe we need to start bringing GM Crops to our lower food base range…cheap food eh?”.

Sorry, I don’t buy that. The more ANY SANE PERSON looks at the global situation, the more you HAVE to smell a Global Rat…

Of course if the Global Conspiracy theory will not fly then at the very least the UK Energy Companies (and by virtue, their shareholders) have a massive part to play in the destruction of our economy…how? Well if our Utility companies had not been sold down the river to foreign companies we would not be subject to what is in effect economic warfare. If these international companies where not allowed to extort (yes, extort) money from the UK citizens in such a way as to protect their own profits and economies then we would not be facing one of the biggest economic crisis in 30 years.

Capitalism works only if you have a market that is not destroyed by excessive taxation.

On a side note, if this Government is willing to take the plaudits for its “sterling economic mastery” over the past 10 years and NOT give credit to the international economic state, when the economy goes Pete Tong as it is doing, well heck, they need to stand up and take the flack….but NO…apparently it’s all down to international economic pressures..nothing to do with Browns economic mis-management and shicanery eh?
