Just a passenger

Posted on: September 15, 2008

As I sit here listening to Radio 4 it is evident that the sharks are circling. When something like this happens (Lehman collapse) the media in it’s entirety attempts to simply create panic in order to increase listeners/readers/viewers.

Recession, war and failure are manna from heaven for the media, the are the very lifeblood on which they run. Why? Because we as a society have allowed ourselves to become immune to goodness, to the joys of life and the happiness that comes from good works. We have become so materially focused that we only respond to negativity.

For a Tax Payer Funded organisation such as the BBC there is a extra dollop of shame to be heaped upon them. They are MOST DEFINATELY there to report the news, not shape the agenda, not feed the fire and certainly not to speculate and enhance the fear.

SHAME ON THE BBC!

Sure, it’s hard to find any joy or happiness from such a collapse as this and the possible ramifications and ripples are mind-boggling. The thousands of people who will lose their jobs as a result of this is astounding and hard to comprehend but simply to spend time wallowing in this darkness is to miss an opportunity to lift ourselves away from the dependence on sorrow.

Sure, the Capitalist model is completely flawed, sure there are those who have played a key role in this collapse who will not feel much in the way of financial pain but to allow ourselves be embraced by a dark voyeurism as we watch the markets spiral into panic serves only to justify the self-fulfilling mantra of the mass media…”Doom is coming”.

If Mr Murdoch et al had their way then we would live a life of perpetual doom because that way lies money and riches for a select few.

This episode proves a point that I suspect most of us knew. That Big Business does not give a fig about us, the Proletariat. With Oil giants (and minnows!) making a killing even though the price per barrel is BELOW that of June 2008 when prices started to rise, we are still paying too much and our esteemed government does nothing. Banks have abrogated their social responsibility in the chase for ever increasing and abhorrent profits and now the chickens are coming home to roost and what happens?

We, the tax payer, are expected to bail them out. The excuse being well if you don’t you will be the ones to suffer.

Reminds me very much of the Gladiators of Rome…

Our line to the banks and oil companies, governments and media..

“We who are about to be fleeced, salute you”.

If EVER there was a time for a revolution both economically and socially then it is now. If ever there was a time for change then it is now. I feel we are at a tipping point in the history of the West, a time when the old crumbles and from the ruins something new must come.

P.S. Capitalism may be coming to an end but we already KNOW for a fact that Communism and Socialism don’t work so don’t try that!
